How much does a small business website cost in the UK?

A small business website in the UK usually costs anywhere from a few hundred pounds to a few thousand, depending on how many pages you need and what the site has to do. With us, fixed-price Launch websites start at £495 (Starter), then £995 (Business) and £1,950 (Growth), with optional monthly care plans from £39. The bigger question is not the headline price but what you get for it, and what it costs to keep the site running afterwards.

This guide covers the main things that affect the price, the costs people often forget about, and how to work out which level suits your business.

The short answer: our UK prices

We publish our prices so you know where you stand before you speak to us. These are fixed, one-off prices for a Launch website:

  • Starter: £495
  • Business: £995
  • Growth: £1,950

[CHECK: confirm exactly what is included in each package (number of pages, booking form, SEO pages, etc.) before publishing a breakdown.]

After launch, you can choose a monthly care plan:

  • Basic: £39 a month
  • Standard: £79 a month
  • Full: £149 a month

Care plans cover managed hosting, SSL (the padlock in the browser bar), backups, updates and small edits. The higher plans give you more support.

If you need something more than a website, such as a full booking platform or a system your staff log into, that sits under our Custom Systems work. A discovery and demo stage costs £400, and fixed-scope systems start from £3,200.

What actually changes the price of a website

Most businesses don't need to understand the technical side, but it helps to know what drives cost up or down.

How many pages you need

A one-page site with your services, contact details and a call button is the simplest option. A multi-page site, with a separate page for each service or each area you cover, takes more planning, writing and design.

More pages are not just about looking bigger. Separate service pages give Google more to work with when someone searches for exactly what you do. One of our UK clients, Helping Hand PA, a virtual assistant business, started with a one-page site and later grew to a multi-page site with SEO and a Google Business Profile. Starting small and growing is a perfectly sensible route.

What the site has to do

A website that simply tells people who you are costs less than one that takes action. Features that add work include:

  • Booking forms, where customers choose a service, date and details
  • WhatsApp-first contact, so enquiries come straight to your phone
  • Quote or valuation flows, where customers answer a few questions and get a response
  • Notifications and saved records, so every enquiry reaches you by WhatsApp and email and is stored in one place

For example, we built Greenwich Car Spa, a UK car wash, a booking website where every booking goes to WhatsApp, email and a database. Car Buying Corner, a car buying shop in Kent, has a site built around a three-step valuation-to-offer flow. These sites do a job, not just display information, and that is reflected in the build.

Whether you need to edit it yourself

Some businesses are happy to send changes to us. Others want to update their own pages, prices or blog posts. A content management system (CMS) lets your team do that without a developer. We built one for Hustle Media Productions, a London digital agency, so their team can update service pages, pricing and their blog themselves. A CMS adds to the build, so it is worth asking whether you really need one.

Who writes the words

Good text sells. If you already have clear wording for your services, the job is quicker. If you need help working out what to say, that is part of the work too. [CHECK: confirm whether copywriting is included in each package.]

Being found on Google

A website that nobody finds won't bring in work. Setting up a Google Business Profile and building pages that target the searches your customers actually make are separate tasks from building the site itself. Our SEO & Google service covers this, from SEO pages and blog writing to Google Business Profile setup and management.

The costs people forget about

The build price is only part of the picture. Every website has running costs, whoever builds it.

Domain name

Your web address (for example, yourbusiness.co.uk) is renewed each year. [CHECK: confirm whether the domain is included in our packages or care plans.]

Hosting and security

Your site has to live on a server, and it needs an SSL certificate so browsers show it as secure. On our care plans, managed hosting and SSL are included.

Backups and updates

Websites need looking after. Software gets updated, and things can go wrong. Regular backups mean that if something breaks, your site can be restored. Our care plans include both.

Small changes

New opening hours, a new service, a price change. These come up all the time. Small edits are included in our care plans, so you are not paying for every little change.

When you compare quotes, ask each provider what happens after launch. A cheap build with no support can end up costing more in time and stress than a slightly higher price with care included.

DIY builders, freelancers or an agency?

There are three common routes for UK small businesses.

DIY website builders have low monthly fees and you can start today. The trade-off is your time: you design it, write it, set it up and fix it yourself. For some businesses that works well. For a busy tradesperson or owner-manager, it often ends up half-finished.

Freelancers vary a lot in price and quality. Some are excellent. Check that they will still be around to support you after launch, and that you will own your site and domain.

Small agencies and studios like ours usually offer a more complete package: planning, design, build, launch and ongoing care. Fixed prices help here, because you know the cost before you commit.

Whichever you choose, the questions are the same: what is included, what isn't, who owns the site, and what does it cost each month afterwards?

Which level is right for your business?

A simple way to think about it:

  • You mainly need to be found and contacted. A smaller site with clear services, your phone number and WhatsApp may be all you need to begin with.
  • You want customers to book or request a quote online. You need a site with forms and notifications, so enquiries reach you straight away.
  • You cover several services or areas and want more from Google. A multi-page site with a page for each service, plus a Google Business Profile, gives you a stronger base.

Our UK recovery clients are a good example of the middle and upper options. Last Mile Recovery takes 24/7 recovery requests and service bookings, with WhatsApp-first contact, SEO pages and a Google Business Profile. TM Recovery has a WhatsApp-first site with a page for each job type. For businesses where customers need help quickly, being easy to contact matters more than anything else.
