How much does a website cost for a small business in Malawi in 2026?
In 2026, our websites for Malawian small businesses cost from MWK 230,000 for a Basic Website and MWK 475,000 for a Startup Website. A Dynamic business website costs MWK 2,050,000, and the All-in-One Business Bundle costs MWK 4,600,000. Why website prices vary so much
If you've asked around Lilongwe or Blantyre, you've probably heard quotes that are very far apart. That's normal. "A website" can mean anything from one page with your phone number to a full platform that takes bookings and payments. These are the main things that move the price:
- What the site has to do. A site that tells people who you are and how to reach you is simpler than one that takes bookings, shows live listings or accepts payments.
- Who updates it. If you want your own team to add products, properties, news or prices without calling a developer, the site needs a content management system (CMS). That takes more work to build.
- How many types of page you need. It's not about the total number of pages. Ten pages built from the same layout cost less than five pages that each work differently.
- Connections to other tools. WhatsApp, email notifications, online payments, maps and booking systems all need setting up and testing.
- Currencies and audiences. If you sell to both local and international customers, you may need to show prices in MWK and USD.
Which package fits your business?
A rough guide to choosing:
You mainly need to be found and contacted. Maybe you're a new business, a consultant or a shop. Customers mostly want to know what you do, where you are and how to reach you. A Basic or Startup Website is usually the right place to start.
You want to update the site yourself and grow online. If you add products, services or news often, a Dynamic business website gives you more room. Your team can keep it up to date without waiting on anyone.
You want your whole online presence handled together. The All-in-One Business Bundle is for businesses that want the website plus more of the surrounding work in one package. [CHECK: list what the All-in-One Business Bundle includes, e.g. social media, SEO, Google Business Profile, care.]
You can also start small and grow. One of our UK clients, Helping Hand PA, started with a one-page site and later moved to a multi-page site with SEO and a Google Business Profile. Building in stages like this is often the sensible way to spend a small budget.
When you need more than a website
Some businesses don't just want a website. They want something that runs part of the business. In that case you need a custom system, not a website package.
Two of our Malawian projects show the difference:
- Castles & Weathers, a real estate and valuation firm founded in 1996, has a property listings platform. Prices show in MWK and USD, and the firm's own team uses an admin panel to manage listings. It also takes contact form enquiries and booking requests, and has a page for each of the firm's services.
- Malawi Holidays has a platform that connects travellers with Malawian experiences. It covers packages, hotels and car hire, with a booking flow, online payments, a CMS and a blog.
We're also building an AI-assisted legal case management system for a Malawian law firm. Staff can ask it in plain words to fill in documents, find cases or summarise a file.
Our custom system prices in Malawi are:
- Discovery & demo: MWK 900,000
- Fixed-scope system: from MWK 7,000,000
- Phased build: from MWK 4,500,000 per phase
- Monthly retainer: from MWK 450,000 per month
If your main need is taking bookings, managing listings or tracking clients and jobs, see our Custom Systems page. You can try a live demo there before you commit to anything.
Costs after launch
The build price is only part of the cost. A website keeps costing a little after it goes live, and you should plan for that from the start.
Domain name. Your web address (for example, yourbusiness.mw or yourbusiness.com) has to be renewed every year. [CHECK: whether domain registration is included in the Malawi packages, and for how long.]
Hosting, security and backups. Your site needs a server, an SSL certificate (the padlock in the browser) and regular backups. Our care plans cover managed hosting, SSL, backups, updates and small edits. [CHECK: Malawi care plan prices in MWK.]
Getting found on Google. A website nobody can find won't bring in much business. Our SEO & Google service covers SEO pages, blog writing, and setting up and managing your Google Business Profile. A Google Business Profile matters most for businesses that serve local customers.
Social media. If you'd rather not write and design posts yourself, our social media service starts from MWK 150,000 a month. You approve every post before it goes live.
None of these are required on day one. Still, a site that's left alone with nobody looking after it tends to go out of date, break or become a security risk.
How to keep the cost under control
- Write down what you want the website to do. For example: "take bookings", "show our properties" or "get people to message us on WhatsApp". Clear goals make the quote more accurate and stop you paying for features you won't use.
- Start with what brings in money. If most of your customers contact you on WhatsApp, a site built around that may be all you need for now.
- Build in phases. Larger projects don't need to be paid for all at once. Our phased builds let you launch the most important part first.
- Get the price fixed in writing. Ask any supplier for the scope and price on paper. Hourly billing with no cap is how budgets get away from small businesses.
- Ask who owns what. Before you sign, check who will hold your domain, your content and your logins.
